Old Year Blues

What a strange year it’s been! I found it really hard to feel festive this season… leading up to Christmas wasn’t so bad, but the day itself just came with a horrible empty feeling that I couldn’t quite shake. I’ve been struggling to feel positive lately, sometimes you just want to take all the precious bits of your life and lock them safely away in a box. But then, that wouldn’t really be living, so you just have to put on a brave face and carry on.

As far as updates go, I left my job at the marketing agency. I’ll miss the staff and the clients, but it was the right decision for me to make at this point in my life. I’ve back at Valnet, only this time as a staff writer for TheGamer and Game Rant, though I might still write pieces for ScreenRant and CBR from time to time. Lately, I’ve mostly been writing gaming guides as I super enjoy doing that. I’m super glad to be back at Valnet full time, it’s comfortable and familiar and I really need that right now.

In terms of plans for 2021, I have Wolfrik to edit and a new unrelated title on the go too, so I have plenty to be getting on with writing-wise. As far as reading goes, I still plan to read and review all of Time Magazine’s Top 100 Fantasy Books (many of which I was kindly gifted for Christmas) and I am also still reviewing books via Book Sirens (and the last two I read were particularly excellent!).

Game-wise, I recently completed Immortals Fenyx Rising and I was surprised with just how much I loved it, so I can’t wait for the season pass content. I’ve still got Yakuza: Like a Dragon on the go and I’ve also started a new character on Final Fantasy XIV for funsies. Sometimes, when I’ve been AWOL for so long from the game, I come back and I’m overwhelmed by all the new content or lots of changes and so it’s nice to just go back to the basics.
